Meththa Artificial limbs fitting & Appliance division conducted its routine successful medical Mobile Service to the Disabled School children in Mannar, Kilinochchi & Mullaitivu Districts(picture)
These School children are below 19 years and they grow very fast in their height and body shape, who require a prosthetic & orthotic devices in every ten months . We observed that certain children who have amputated during their early growth period, as their bones are still growing from their amputated stumps, Our Team leader Dr. B.Panagamuwa advised once in two years to undergo a minor operation for the removal of such bones.
It was remarkable to note that these children who had severe mental trauma during the past are now slowly recovering and concentrate in their studies and other school activities. Thanks to the Teachers , NGO, Religious Institutions, Govt Dept and member students who give them encouragement to bring these disabled school children into the main stream. 85 no of such school going students have seek education assistance from Meththa which we forwarded to the Ministry of Social Service, Mannar & Colombo, The Sivan Arul Illum Uk trust, The Labara OMI Northern province, The Candle Aid Organization, The MARR organization of Mannar and our Head Office The Meththa Foundation of UK. We hope action will be taken by these Organizations & Dept to give a helping hand to these school tots.
Meththa Humanitarian services are booted by Sivan Arul Illum Trust. UK, under the Leadership of Dr. Namasivayam, from UK and the Labara ,Oblate of Mary Immaculate Catholic Missionary(OMI ), Northern Province Director Rev Fr. Paul Natchaithiram assisted by Rev Fr, Beshman from Jaffna. It was encouraging to note that Meththa Foundation had completed their three years Humanitarian services since last 2010 July and have catered more than 1,200 individual members.
During the July mobile services Two of our great funders Dr. Namasivayam. from Sivan Arul Illum. UK and OMI Labara Jaffna Rev Fr. Beshman had visited and give encouragement to the Meththa Staff & to the Beneficiaries. Further after realizing the need of this artificial limb services to the 3% of our Srilankan population, The Ministry of Health have allocated a land & building at Maho in the South and OMI Lebara had allocated a land and building at Mankulam A/9 ,Main Road for the disabled from the North to come for their regular services of Prosthetic and Orthotic devices. Most probably these two building will come under function Maho in September, and Mankulam in December. In the mean time Meththa will have their satlight service in Poonakary, Vellankulam, Kilinochchi, Mullaitrivu and kandy.
Also Meththa have covered the New & old patients at Kilinochchi, Mullaitivu & Mannar districts, by taking New Measurement and doing Major & Minor repair to their Prosthetic & Orthotic Devices, and issued mobility devices to war affected women & men.
Meththa wished to thank the Zonal Education Director of Madhu zone in Mannar, Thunukai Zone in Mullaitivu, the respective Govt Agents, Divisional Secretaries, Director Karunai Nilayam ,Kilinochchi, Manager, Fishermen Co operative Manal kudirupu in Mullaitrivu, the Rotarian Club UK & Cinnamon Garden Colombo for their kind assistance specially for the modern Mobile Bus also The media for their publicity assistance for the Meththa to reach the disabled in the interior rural area of these districts.
